The article investigates current trends in the development of Ukraine’s woodworking industry and substantiates their influence on determining strategic priorities for the furniture industry. The relevance of the study is driven by the necessity to improve the efficiency of wood resource utilization, implement circular economy principles, expand the production of engineered wood materials, and increase the share of high value-added products under conditions of decreasing raw material availability and growing international competition. The objective of the research is to develop scientifically substantiated priority directions for the development of Ukraine’s furniture industry based on a comprehensive analysis of woodworking industry trends. The research is based on a systematic approach combining statistical, comparative, analytical, and structural methods. Official statistical data covering timber harvesting, post-consumer wood utilization, production volumes of engineered wood materials (particleboard, OSB, MDF, plywood, and veneer), and foreign trade indicators for furniture products during 2018–2025 were analyzed. The relationships between resource availability, wood processing, engineered wood production, furniture manufacturing, and export performance were evaluated. The results indicate a steady decline in primary timber harvesting and post-consumer wood resources, emphasizing the necessity of transitioning toward a resource-efficient production model. At the same time, stable growth was identified in the production of MDF, plywood, and veneer, demonstrating the increasing importance of high-performance engineered wood materials in modern furniture manufacturing. The analysis of foreign trade revealed a continuous increase in the positive trade balance of furniture products, confirming the growing competitiveness of Ukrainian furniture manufacturers in international markets. Based on the obtained results, a system of priority development directions was proposed, including the implementation of circular economy principles, efficient utilization of primary and secondary wood resources, modernization of engineered wood production, digital transformation of furniture design and manufacturing, expansion of export-oriented production, and integration of sustainable resource management into industrial policy. The scientific novelty of the research lies in the development of an integrated conceptual model that combines the entire value chain «Timber harvesting – primary wood – secondary wood – engineered wood materials – furniture manufacturing – foreign trade – strategic development priorities» Unlike existing approaches, the proposed model integrates resource, technological, industrial, and economic components into a unified framework for assessing the long-term development of the furniture industry. The practical significance of the study consists in the possibility of applying the obtained results to national industrial policy, strategic planning for woodworking and furniture enterprises, investment decision-making, and programs aimed at improving the international competitiveness and sustainable development of Ukraine’s furniture industry.
