Abstract

In the article the ecological and silvicultural peculiarities of Abies alba Mill. are discussed. The current distribution of Silver Fir forests in Bavaria (Germany) and in the Ukrainian Carpathians is described. There are the reasons between actual and natural amount of Silver Fir stands adduced. Also the natural regeneration of Silver Fir has been studied. The success of conservation of Silver Fir depends on adjusted forest management treatments concerning the different ecological needs of Silver Firs at various life stages.
