The complex studies on the change of elastic properties of post-consumer fir wood with age

The elastic properties of post-consumer wood (PCW) firings of different ages (in terms of service life) have been investigated, because there are no normative documents defining the physical and mechanical properties of used wood of different ages, which are necessary for forecasting the characteristics of the resulting products. The characteristics of PCW of common breed of fir in the range of use from 0 to 20 years, with intermediate control of properties every 5 years are investigated. The elastic (mechanical) properties of PCW are determined according to the following parameters: strength at static bending, elastic modulus under compression, elastic modulus at static bending, shear modulus, coefficients of transverse deformation, relative deformations are found, graphically residual deformations are determined. It has been established that with the time of operation in different conditions, in particular in the open air, mechanical properties have changed, mainly towards a decrease. It is analyzed that coefficients of transversal deformation also change and, based on the assumption of the existence of an elastic potential, the following conditions must be fulfilled in which PCW can be characterized as an orthogonal transversally isotropic material (especially in glued constructions), as a special case of orthotropic. The database was supplemented by indicators – mechanical properties of PCW of different age of fir wood.
